The Unix operating system distributed by the Computer Systems Research Group of the University of California, Berkeley.

Compared to Linux, which is the POSIX compliant, BSD was the Unix historically.

Because the original BSD is discontinued, the BSD refers the BSD variants like FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, and so on.
